I don’t think anyone really likes having their photo taken, especially photographers, and I am no exception. But for better or worse that is me across to the left.
To cut to the chase – I am Rick Harvey, an amateur photographer from Invercargill in the Deep South of New Zealand.
Essentially I take photos for fun, and everything I do I do on a budget – because I must! I don’t have the latest camera with a zillion megapixels and I don’t have the most expensive glass. My modest Nikon D5100 with its original kit lenses is more than adequate for most things I want to do because, at the end of the day, it is not the camera that makes the picture, it is the person behind the camera.
I am an opportunist photographer and I enjoy taking photographs of ordinary things I see around me, and try to make them appear a little less ordinary and a little more interesting, and while it is always nice to have others appreciate my images, my primary goal is to take photographs that make me happy.
To quote the American photographer David Beckstead:
I believe that every time I press the shutter, I create for myself.
